Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, valued the economic freedom
and war against corruption as the key of the success in Albania’s
economic model.
Speaking in the Democratic Parliamentary Group meeting, the PM referred to the recent Census data which indicate that half of the existing businesses have been opened from 2005 to 2011.
“The last Census proves that 2005-2009 were the years when the number of businesses that came to life was as big as what had been achieved in the previous 15 years. This model and this progress explains why the taxes collected from 2006 to 2011 mount to 7.2 billion USD more than in the peaking year of the second mandate of the Socialists, three budgets more than in 2004. This model of transparency, with a friendly environment for business, enabled Albania to triple the exports from 2006 to 2011”, Berisha declared.
“Recently they (opposition) have been having a problem with taxes. They want to return to the Marxist model, which is one of the factors that caused today’s crisis. The truth is that our model made the employees who were paid 220.000 ALL annually in 2005, receive 500.000 ALL in 2010. And it is true that in 2005, after the taxes were paid, they were left with 213.000 ALL, while in 2010 they remain with 450.000 ALL. Let us ask these employees if they would prefer 220.000 – 7000 or 500.000 – 40.000”, Berisha added.
The Head of the Albanian Government underlined that 50% of the active businesses of the country have been created in the first mandate of the current majority, and this is the proof of the success of this economic model.
