Berisha: Booming tourism for 2011

411.927 tourists and visitors more than last year have visited Albania from January 1st until August 8th.

This data was given by the Prime Minister Sali Berisha during a government meeting, where he expressed his pleasure on what he considered a tourist boom.

“It has never happened in any other country that the tourism grows with such a big pace as in Albania. You may go and ask wherever you might want. I guarantee you that maybe you will find five star hotels, but there’s nothing like the coastline and the mountains of this country”, Berisha declared.

From the beginning of the year and until August 8th, Albania has had more than 2.1 million visitors and for the Prime Minister Berisha, this is only the beginning. With the development and reconstruction of the Ionian coastline, which has 90% of its coasts in an undeveloped state, the Prime Minister declared that the sea and mountain tourism will be one of the main economic sources of Albania, naturally, without covering the natural beauties with concrete.

“Tourist residential areas and resorts will be built along the coastline. Buildings higher than three stores will be built only if permitted by the respective authorities”, Berisha declared.

But there is another problem that the Prime Minister Berisha mentions whenever he can: the lack of clean roads and beaches.

“The tourism growth with 411927 more visitors in 6 months is very promising. It is a growth that justifies the prophecy of those who declared Albania the most beautiful country for 2011. Naturally, when I say this, I don’t ignore the unforgivable defects that we have, such as the lack of clean roads and beaches. But we will get out from this unacceptable psychology of throwing garbage everywhere, otherwise we will damage one of the greatest sources of revenues in our country”, Berisha declared.

Staying on tourism growth, the Albanian Prime Minister didn’t forget to mention the growth of the number of Albanians who have traveled without visas. In the first 6 months, 347.000 more Albanians have traveled abroad than before the visa regime lift. For Berisha, this shows how much the Albanians have benefited from the free visa regime. But it doesn’t end with this. The Prime Minister gave strong political tones to this matter. He asked the opposition that instead of regretting the constitutional changes, they should regret and repent for the attempts that, according to him, the Socialist Party made for impeding the lift of the visa regime.

“I say that the regret and apologies should start from this, and not for the chair in this or that institution. Only then you can be credible. This shows that you know how to correct the big mistake that you made. But not by asking new political chairs and thinking that the Constitution is a Party status. The citizens do not have any concern if the President will be chosen with 56 or 75 of the Parliament. The citizens are concerned to have law and order in full accordance with the Constitution. Their bigger concerns are the wages, the pensions, the roads, the visas. I guarantee you that we will continue to keep these efforts as our priority”, Berisha declared.
