Berisha and Rama react for candidate status

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, blamed the opposition leader
for Albania’s failure to receive the EU candidate status this year.

However, the Prime Minister appealed him once again to pass the three remaining laws that were recommended by Brussels.

“I reiterated my appeal to Mr. Rama to vote the three laws, although the damage was made now and it is irreparable. I must inform the Albanians that the message in Brussels is negative, ‘When you don’t vote for yourself, we cannot vote for you'”, Berisha declared.

However, the Albanian Prime Minister declared that the integration process is long and complex, and for this reason there are still chances to pass the laws.

“It’s an absolutely wrong calculation if you keep believing that you help the government by passing these laws. No, it helps every Albanian. Failing to vote the laws is another burden on those who used their power to block the Albanians”, Berisha declared.

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, underlined that the EU rejection was due to the lack of free and honest elections.

“What the couriers will use as an argument to not take in consideration Albania’s application for the EU candidate status should be read very carefully in every word of it, so that we can understand that the EU candidate status is a status that Albania can receive when free and honest elections will be held”, Rama declared, adding that they cannot bypass crime and corruption.

“This is a status that Albania can take when it will give tangible proofs of the good will to fight the impunity culture and the organized crime”, Rama underlined.

The opposition leader added that Albania will take the status only after the next Parliamentary elections, which will enable our country to progress.

“Certainly, Albania will take this status after the next elections, because we are determined to not let Albania keep ruining itself any further”, Rama declared.
