The last time that the two main Albanian political leaders had exchanged
ironic quotes against each other, was on the electoral reform dialogue
table of one year ago. This time it was at the ceremony for the 20th
anniversary of the German Foundation “Friedrich Ebert”.
After Mr. Berisha’s speech, who thanked the foundation for the help given to Albania, the opposition leader, Edi Rama closed his speech with two ironic sentences against the Prime Minister, who had said during a government meeting that Albania comes second to Germany for economic development, after referring to a foreign publishing that saw Germany as the most stable economy in developed countries and Albania in under development countries.
Edi Rama: Let us hope that the economic crisis will not affect the finances that the German state provides for this institution, because we woulnd be able help, in case funds would be cut. I said this because I fear that Berlin might hear Berisha’s words, that we’re the second strongest economy in the world after Germany, because we would be in trouble.
Sali Berisha: The word will not go, because you have replaced speeches with editorials.
Edi Rama: He’s used in the Parliament to interrupt others’ speech.
All German ambassador’s hard efforts for making both political rivals shake hands were in vain. The latest handshake between the two Albanian political leaders was one year ago too, at the dialogue table for the electoral reform.
