The senior official of the opposition DP, Sali Berisha has spoken today against the government initiative for the legalization of cannabis in the country.
In a press conference, Berisha considered the decision harmful to Albanians, a decision that, as he said, is sinonimous with legalization of crime, drugs and murders.
Berisha said: “I am here for the harmful decision that PM Rama is taking with the legalization of cannabis. This decision is a legalization of crime, drugs, murders, drugging of young people and the population, a violation of their physical and mental health, the identity of Albanians, their reputation.
“In my training as a doctor but also as a politician I have read extensively about cannabis, I am fully aware that the oil of this plant or other by-products are used to relieve some conditions.
“But it has been proven that it multiplies the occurrence of the most severe psychoses, that it gives structural changes evidenced in the brains of its users. They have been shown to be harmful to the heart and circulatory system. That cannabis is legalized means that any family is tempted by the greed to plant cannabis. Licenses will be given to their clientele, but this will be massive.
“This decision makes Albania a problematic country for the security of the region, it adds a source of investment for criminal organizations. For all this, I call on Albanians to oppose and not support such a destructive policy,” Berisha said among other things.
