Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future On today’s government meeting, Prime Minister Sali Berisha paid a
special attention to one indicator that came out of the Census, the
residence construction.
According to this indicator, the Albanians have built more residences than any other country in the last 10 years, reaching a standard almost equal to the developed countries. In 2001 there were 225 residences for 1.000 people, while in 2011 there are 380 residences for 1000 people, bringing to 740.000 the number of families that own a residence, and more than 340.000 families that have a second residence.
Berisha considered this as an historical achievement, and according to him, the merit goes to the sacrifices of the hard working Albanians, the economic model and the freedom for building their future, when only two decades ago, the Albanians came out of the communist system as the second poorest country in the world.
“In 2001, one residence belonged to 3.9 Albanians. In 2011, 1 residence belongs to 2.6 Albanians. The number of residences in total is 1.075.881. The Albanians have built in these 10 years more than the other countries have built in 30 years, such as the 25 member states of the OECD and the EU”, Berisha declared.
Berisha admitted that Albania also has many homeless and poor people, but according to him, the census results reject the oppositions’ accusations that there are 1 million unemployed and poor people in the country.
“They speak about 1 million poor people in this country, with the arithmetic of 21 years ago”, Berisha declared.
This Census indicator and the other results, according to the PM are important for every political party, and that it will help them in planning a development alternative, because Albania must enter the EU as a developed country, according to the Prime Minister.
“We don’t have to integrate as the poorest country of EU. We will create wealth, revenues, and we will develop, because we have everything for this, and here is the result”, Berisha declared.
