No concrete study or project has been made for the rehabilitation of the
Osum River, which has the highest water levels and inert sediments in
the area.
The lack of awareness among the citizens has polluted the river bed.
The Berat Municipality and a French studio have conducted a study for the feasibility of the Osum River, including the construction of the embankments and the creation of a system for the polluted waters that pour into it. But this project needs big investments.
Almost each year there are feasibility plans for the Osum River, but none of them has been realized. The Osum River goes across the town that is protected by UNESCO, which is visited by hundreds of local and foreign tourists. But with change of seasons and the temperature increase, it could be a danger even for spreading epidemics.
