After the first fire at the museum neighborhood, the Berat prefect
gathered the civil emergency headquarters. In this meeting there were
leaders from the firefighters, the forest police, chiefs of police and
heads of local units, who were updated with the current situation and
have taken a series of tasks for facing the situation.
The report of prefect Hoxhaj explains that Berat has had 111 fires from January to July, 66 of which in Berat, 19 in Skrapar and 26 in Kucova, while the summer months are the most dangerous ones.
The most dangerous fires during July took place near the Berat Castle. Prefect Hoxhaj declared that the local unit leaders are the ones who have the legal responsibility to prevent and face the emergencies of forest fires. It is up to the local units to establish teams against forest fires; to appoint prepared forest guards and observers who can cooperate with the firefighters and the police.
