A big fire broke up a few days ago in the Gorice neighborhood, Berat,
burning down 222 hectares, 80 of them with pine trees, while the museum
neighborhood ancient buildings were seriously damaged.
The news was confirmed by the firefighters’ director for Berat, Shpetim Goricva, who made the aftermath. The director declared that 142 hectares of wild bushes were burned, together with pine trees.
30 firefighters from Berat participated in the rescue, 7 from Kucova, 10 from the Forest Police and 20 from the army.
Gorica declared that the main obstacles met during their work was the lack of a vehicle passage in the Partizan mountain, the broken trunks in the forest, the difficult terrain and the lack of volunteers from the Velabisht community for defending their own land.
