Beqiri: I have already been sentenced

The arrest of Idajet Beqiri, on behalf of the Belgian authorities and
the order for keeping him in prison for 40 days, was received with
revolt by his wife, Nexhmie Beqiri, who appealed the Minister of
Justice, Eduard Halimi, to interfere for sending the necessary documents
to Kosovo.

According to Mrs. Beqiri, he has already paid once for inciting ethnic violence, and cannot be trialed twice for the same crime.

Beqiri’s case is related with a web page of the Front for National Unification, almost 10 years ago, when he was in Belgium as a political asylum seeker. The Prosecution found that the web page incited ethnic hate, and for this, Beqiri was arrested and brought to Albanai, where he was sentenced with 18 months to prison from the Court of First Degree, while the others found him innocent.

But parallel with the process in Albania, there was another trial going on against him in Belgium, where he was sentenced with four years to prison. After an international arrest order, the lawyer was arrested right after he left Albania.
