The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, today welcomed the approval of the opinion of the EU rapporteur for Kosovo, Dora Bakojanis, where it is recommended that the conditions for Kosovo to become a full member of the Council of Europe have been met.
“Deserved achievement of Kosovo in its journey towards full membership in the Council of Europe. This proves Kosovo’s unwavering political commitment to European values and standards”, writes Begaj in a reaction on social networks.
The Committee for Politics today welcomed the implementation of the decision of the Constitutional Court on the lands of the Monastery of Deçan, but adds that the establishment of the ‘Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority’ should be a “commitment” after the membership for Kosovo, in order to help protect the rights of Kosovo Serbs and that the expropriations should be carried out “in the strictest respect of the law” and in full accordance with the ‘Ahtisaari’ Plan.
In this meeting, the Committee also discussed the security situation, considering that the risk of spreading violence is real and that Kosovo should work on “protecting the rights of the Serbian community, reducing tensions and normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia”.
