The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, received today the German
Foreign Minister, Frank Walter Steinmeier. The justice reform was a very
important spot in the justice reform.

The opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, said that the majority has done everything possible to take control of the justice system. “This was proven by Venice, which rejected the first draft of the majority in 38 points, considering it as a propositions that would bring political control over the justice system. Although the Democratic Party asked the majority to sit and approve the joint draft, this was rejected by the majority, which brought a second unilateral draft. Venice proved once again the concerns of the opposition for political control, including with the National Bureau of Investigation, which Edi Rama wanted to have under the control of the Interior Minister.

Basha added that “thanks to the role of the opposition, we have a draft that has been improved, except for the matter of new choosing the new institutions. The Democratic Party requested a full implementation of article 88 of the Venice Recommendation, but Edi Rama showed no good will for accepting its implementation that does not allow control of the justice system by politics”, Basha told the German Minister.

The Democratic Party leader told the German Foreign Minister that Edi Rama is trying to buy votes from the MPs of the opposition for voting the justice reform unilaterally. Basha confirmed the stance of the DP that if the opposition traffics votes to the left, they will burn all mandates and will ask the citizens for a solution. The DP underlined that the opposition has shown the complete will to find a solution based on the Venice Commission.

According to the DP, Basha mentioned in the meeting with the Germain Foreign Minister the issue of the electoral reform. He reminded the OSCE/ODIHR report for 2015, which underlines that the elections were not free or fair, there were sold identity cards, vote purchase, intimidation of voters and pressure in polling stations by people with a criminal past, which, according to Basha, was proven with representatives of the Diplomatic Body in Albania. In these conditions, according to Basha, electronic votes are the only solution to allow citizens to freely express their will.
