The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, is attending the Political Assembly of the European Popular Parties in Europe.

Basha held a series of meetings with colleagues and leaders of right wing parties of Europe.

In his declaration from Brussels, Basha said that he noticed a big hesitation of EU member countries as regards opening accession negotiations with Albania.

Basha said he saw especially great concerns as regards the rule of law, fight against crime and corruption. “The episode with Tahiri and the political protection he received in Parliament, and the escaping of three major police officers, who were involved with drug traffic.

“Most of the member countries are very aware of these problems, which could block Albania’s European path, punishing this way all of the Albanian people, who have nothing to do with the drug traffic and cultivation, but they are the first ones to suffer additional problems with the visa free movement or threats to bring the visa regime back”, Basha said.

“This is absolutely bad news for the opposition. Our first interest is the national interest, the interest of the Albanian people, who don’t deserve to be stained and punished for something that has actually been the project of a small group of criminals, whose only goals are power and getting richer”, the Democratic Party leader said,

He added that “the only way to advance with the European interests of Albanians is to have political elections, putting in power an anti-mafia government that would cut ties with  politics, and that would  prepare a true electoral reform that would successfully lead the country towards a legitimate government, through free and honest elections”.
