The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, said that the appointing of Provisory Prosecutor General Arta Marku was illegal.
Basha said that the appointing should be done with three-fifths of Parliament votes, and said that the appointing was against the constitution, politically biased and without vetting.
“Yesterday the majority consumed a constitutional coup and the country entered a spiral of anomaly. Edi Rama violated the constitution, the judiciary reform, appointed a Prosecutor General without vetting, stole the votes of the opposition, used the National Guard to not allow the opposition’s speech in parliament, so that they can appoint a new Prosecutor that will not take Saimir Tahiri, Vangjush Dako and other corrupted ministers in front of justice. The High Council of the Prosecution has been sabotaged so that there was no Prosecutor through vetting and through 3/5th of Parliament votes, but a Prosecutor appointed by Edi Rama through a flagrant violation of the Constitution. For the same reason, they are sabotaging the creation of the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and the National Bureau of Investigation. The Constitutional coup cannot be stopped through petitions in court. It can be stopped with popular confrontation and determination. The only violence yesterday in Parliament was not the smoke bombs, but the violation of the constitution. No matter what ambassadors say, these are the facts”, Basha said.
