Bank of Albania lowered the interest rate to the lowest historical point
of 4.75%, in order to give a new push to the crisis-struck economy.

“We are lowering the interest rate due to the inflation, in support of the expectations for a more preserved fiscal policy. The situation offers better currency conditions for fulfilling the inflation predictions”, Governor Fullani declared.

The Governor also added that the economic growth should be moderated, while the Eurozone crisis and the measures that some countries are taking will increase the insecurities for its future progress.

“The harsh war is being made for keeping the currency evaluation levels out of danger. Different countries have different approaches. The World Bank advises that some given countries should be more careful. This situation is creating uncertainties in the market”, Fullani underlined.

The Governor also added that in these conditions, the best policy for being protected from external dangers is to preserve the public finances and take measures for the financial market.

“With this defense we will be able to create the respective barriers, leaving space to the market for developments”, Fullani declared.

A few days ago, on Top Channel’s program, “Top Story”, the Minister of Finances, Ridvan Bode, declared that the measures of the European Commission for disciplinating the financial markets that are under panic could also hit the Albanian economy by reducing the loans and slowing down the economic growth.
