Balla: Declaration failed because of Berisha

Taulant Balla, co-chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of
Association Stabilization between Albania and the European Union,
accused the opposition of not approving the joint declaration after the
seventh meeting between Albania and the European Parliament.

“The first reason why the declaration was not approved in Strasbourg was that the amends of the Democratic Party Parliament Members, members of this committee, were not there but they were expected to come from Tirana. They were delayed, didn’t come within the official hours. The second problem was that the amends were not amends, but a political declaration of the Democratic Party, completely different from the one prepared by the European Parliament. The draft that was presented was written in Brussels, under the direction of Mr.Kukan, with knowledge from the European Commission”, Balla declared.

Top Channel has a copy of the draft that was being negotiated between parties. The draft says that the firing of Zana Xhuka in October was a process opposed by the opposition as illegal. The Democratic Party members of the delegation wanted to specify in the document that the firing of Zana Xhuka was illegal”.

MP Balla declared that the Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, welcomed the request of the Democratic Party representatives at the Conference of Chairmen to have a meeting with 14 Parliament Members who are members of the committee. Although they were the ones requesting the meeting, the Democratic Party boycotted it.

“In the last propositions made by Mr.Halimi, we accepted all propositions that arrived from the Democratic Party, even those that arrived through e-mail from Tirana to Strasbourg, and even the others that were added during the communication process through e-mail. The Democratic Party Parliament Members agreed with the text of this declaration, and they were even surprised that we were ready to accept all of their proposals. I believe that Mr.Fatmir Mediu, as leader of one of the opposition parties, can confirm this. Mediu promised to talk with Lulzim Basha to accept the draft on which we agreed”, Balla declared.

For all these developments, Taulant Balla stated: “From this process I understood that the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, will never agree on anything. Without a bit of shame he said that they gave consensus, when even after we had agreed on the document, he found an absurd justification to not sign the declaration. For as long that the real leader of the Democratic Party, we will not be able to agree with the Democratic Party on any sentence. It’s not about the text of these documents, it is about the mindset of their elder”, Balla declared.

Referring to Basha’s Dutch passport, Taulant Balla also said that Basha had declared that all European Union citizens should be compensated for the demolition of properties by the National Inspectorate of Urban Construction: “We all know who is the European Union citizen with a Dutch passport”, he declared.
