Authorities say are repelling cyber attack after more than 24 hours of public services shut down

Since Sunday, the public services and information systems are not working in Albania, after a massive cyber attack that stopped the services and put the data of Albanians at risk.

Authorities said today they are working with Microsoft teams to stop the damage to digital systems, and although services to citizens have been temporarily disrupted they will soon return to normal.

But the citizens face the delay of payments, receipt of documents or postponement of school registrations for an indefinite period.

We met today Qamil Shehu, the owner of a construction firm, near the offices of the digital network “e-albania” services, to receive a fiscal certificate, but he came back empty-handed.

“They didn’t solve anything for me, the system is blocked. Why don’t they return it physically so we don’t waste time, they should urgently return the manual service,” said the concerned citizen.

In the press release, the Prime Minister’s office does not provide details on how long it will take to restore the system, but assures the Albanians that the data of the Albanians is safe, while the purpose of the hackers through this sophisticated attack is, according to them, “to take out critical digital systems of the Albanian state”.
