The Foreign Minister of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg, attended an official visit in Tirana, where he met with his Albanian counterpart, Gent Cakaj.
After confirming once again Austria’s firm support for opening Albania’s EU accession negotiations, Shcallenberg also said that the asylum seekers from Albania are still posing a problem for France.
“This situation affects Austria less than the other member countries. But it is an issue that has been reiterated in our meetings with the French counterparts”, the Austrian Foreign Minister declared.
The Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj, underlined that Albania has fulfilled the conditions for opening the EU accession negotiations and that the government is working intensively to secure the other votes in favor.
The decision about Albania’s EU accession negotiations will be taken on October 18th, at the European Council summit.
