Austria supports progressive tax

The Albanian Socialist leader, Edi Rama, is attending a visit in Austria
invited by the Austrian Socialist Party, SPO. Rama considered the
meeting with the former Austrian Chancellor, Vranitzky, as “valid not
only for the past, but also for the future of Albania and the Balkan
region”.

His ideas and stances were considered by Rama as very encouraging for the SP program. During his meeting with Christine Muttonen, the Secretary of the Austrian Socialist Parliamentary Group for Foreign Policy and the relations with Europe, Rama talked about the political and economic situation in Albania and about the country’s progress in the EU integration road.

In the second day of his visit in Austria, the opposition leader attended a business breakfast with the State Secretary of Finances, Andreas Schieder, with whom he discussed about the progressive tax model that SP aims to establish when in power.

“Today we discussed about politics, especially the creation of a tax system that is more favorable and just. I believe that the application of a flat tax in a lower level is not a good idea, because it only favors the rich and takes money from the poor people. The tax system should be just and impartial. This is what the progressive tax does. We discussed the tax issues that are related with the revenues, and also the application of the tax on capital income, because we must guarantee that the government will not be divided, but will stay strongly together. I think that this is important for Austria and Albania. This is a debate that is happening in the European level, and I am happy that in a near future we will be able to deepen this debate with our friends in Albania”, Schieder declared.
