The Chief Inspector of the High Inspectorate of Declaration and Audit of
Assets and Conflict of Interests, (ILDKPKI), told the Commission of
Laws that 84 public officials were sent to the Prosecution last year for
hiding assets, but the figures he mentioned for some of them was
shocking.
“10 of them, MPs, judges and Prosecutors, own 40 million EUR of assets which are not justified”, said Shkelqim Ganaj.
Together with the ILDKPKI annual report, the Commission of Laws had received information from the Prosecution for the situation of the investigation of these 84 files. The MPs described the situation as severe, and said that someone should be held responsible.
“Either you have not done your job well, or the General Prosecution has not done the work well”, said Ulsi Manja.
“I insist for a final solution, even for creating a working group to scrutinize each of the 158 reports. If there is only one problem, I will resign tomorrow. Otherwise, everyone will be held responsible”, said Shkelqim Ganaj.
The Chief Inspector was talking about the General Prosecution. He said that they had cooperation problems with the Supreme State Audit.
“If this mechanism doesn’t work, there are no conclusions. No official has been sentenced or have his assets seized so far”, Shkelqim Ganaj said.
There have been voices among the Socialist MPs that those responsible will be discharged. This means that when the Prosecutor General will soon report at the Commission, the debate will be stronger.
