The establishment of the Parliamentary Commission for the Electoral
Reform was greeted by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign
Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton.

“The High Representative welcomes the inauguration meeting of the Parliamentary Commission for the Electoral Reform that was held in Tirana. Ashton encourages all political forces to continue their work constructively for this commission, in order to achieve consensus for the electoral reform in time for the next elections. The reform of the legislative framework for the elections, in full accordance with the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations, is one of the key priorities that Albania must fulfill for progressing towards the national goal of European integration”, says the declaration distributed by the Spokesperson of Ashton.

The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, has been involved in the country’s developments, right after January 21st, through the Special Envoy Miroslav Lajcak, whose visits did not give any result for bringing the Albanian parties closer.

The EU Council, together with the European Parliament and Commission, joins the other EU institutions that greet the agreements and the latest political moves in Albania.
