On the seventh day of the persecuted people’s hunger strike, the Tirana
authorities finally sent an ambulance to the strikers’ help, a few
minutes after they were meeting the US ambassador, Alexander Arvizu.

The US diplomat expressed his regret that there was no other way for them to express their requests, and heard the longest accusations against the Prime Minister by one of the strikers.

“I know that you have suffered and after the fall of communism you thought that the worst had passed. I wish you could be able to think in another way. I know that you are frustrated”, Arvizu told the strikers.

“This was the only solution. We see it as the same solution of 1991, because they took us everything”, one of them declared.

“The international community must react, because we are having one of most modern dictatorships in the heart of  Europe”, another one declared.

“You must be strong and fight four yourselves, your families and your country”, the US Ambassador declared.

The situation of the hunger strikers is deteriorating. Since the beginning, some of them abandoned the strike because of health problems.

A group of doctors sent by the Socialist Party explained that their situation will be worse because of their age. Earlier they had a meeting with the Albanian former President, Bamir Topi, who accused the government and appealed the authorities to give a solution to this category of people.

“There are dozens of bureaucrats who must start the dialogue and listen the promises that they have made so often, and compensate them until the end. The possibilities for the compensation have always been there”, Topi said for the strikers.

The same appeal was made by the Socialist Party representatives who were sent to check on the situation.
