Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The US Ambassador to Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, started his Tuesday’s
agenda at the Socialist headquarters, where the met with the opposition
leader, Edi Rama, for more than 90 minutes.
After saying that he had chosen a multicolored tie for matching Mr.Rama’s wardrobe, Arvizu gave some details about his conversation with the opposition leader.
“We spoke about his visit to the US, which I think was very productive. I was happy that he went there. Most of the conversation was focused on the reforming processes that are under way. We focused on the Electoral and Parliamentary reforms. I think that there has been progress on many issues, but some of them are not moving as fast as they should. I underlined the fact that we fully support the reforming agenda, and that it is very important to approve the reforms and Parliamentary procedures, especially the Electoral Code, which is very important from a US point of view. It is clear that this is something that both parties should resolve: last April was the deadline for which both parties had agreed, and our hopes and expectancies were that both parties should make everything possible for finishing within the deadline”, Arvizu declared.
Asked by Top Channel about the tense climate between the majority and the opposition, caused by the abandoned Parliament seat of the Socialist MP, Rudina Seseri, Ambassador Arvizu declared that this matter was discussed during the meeting.
“We spoke about this and I must admit that I have been traveling lately, and I am aware of the case but I need to speak with more people about the implications. I must have a better understanding about what the law says in this case. We must always see the laws. I have understood that the next person in the list is the Mayor of Fushe Kruje. He has expressed his hesitation to abandon his current mandate. It is understandable, because he owes the Fushe-Kruje citizens to serve them, because that’s what they elected him for. Where it goes from here, I haven’t been able to fully understand. I simply hope that it will be resolved through a way that is according to the law”, Arvizu declared.
The US Ambassador confirmed that they did not discuss about the next presidential elections, and that this topic would be discussed in other meetings.
