Arvizu, everyone to be blamed

US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, by using a direct and different
language to the usual diplomacy, declared that all parties are to
blame for the steps back in the integration process. The head of the US
diplomacy in Tirana addressed a clear message to the ruling majority of
Mr.Berisha for their responsibilities in creating a dialogue terrain
with the opposition.

“All parties are responsible. Some say that the opposition’s boycott stopped the progress. My opinion is that the long boycott was not productive and did not help the agenda. But I also think that the majority must create the conditions for inviting to dialogue the opposition and people who are not DP supporters. We are talking about compromise. The opposition is not the only one to be blamed. They certainly have responsibilities, but the majority has more responsibility for trying to create realist propositions, which the opposition must accept or at least have the opportunity to participate”, Arvizu declared.

Edi Rama’s 10 propositions for a national integration pact were commented by Arvizu as encouraging.

“I think that the reforms’ implementation should be taken seriously. I think that it is encouraging the fact that the Socialist Party published their 10 ideas. It is not up to me to give specific comments, but I think that it is encouraging, because these propositions could lay the foundation for dialogue. It is up to the two political parties to decide, but I hope that it will serve as a base for talking and progressing. The Parliament Regulation is also important. As it was said by the chief of the OSCE-ODIHR mission, Jonathan Stonestreet, it is important to go ahead and lose no more time, because a lot of time has been lost during the last two years. These things cannot be realized the next day or the next week. Things that are made without consensus could deteriorate the situation. However, it is urgent, because a lot of time has been lost”, Arvizu declared.

The ambassador also told the media about his visit in Slovenia, giving further details and forerunning the different assumptions for the purpose of his visit, also mentioning the name of Fatos Nano.

“We will go to Slovenia for a four-day visit. I want to say to anyone that I am not going to Slovenia for secret meetings with Fatos Nano, Frank Wisner or John Withers. It is a regional conference where I will ask my colleagues in Croatia and Slovenia about what conditions did these countries have before entering EU and how were them realized in the reform agenda. Maybe they will ask me what is blocking the reforms in Albania”, Arvizu declared.
