The Former Socialist leader, Fatos Nano, had a three hour long dinner
with the US Ambassador in Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, in one of the
restaurants in the center of Tirana.
Mr. Nano arrived first, accompanied by his wife Xhoana. Ambassador Arvizu not only shook hands with Nano, an aspirant for becoming President, but he also embraced him in a moment that was recorded by the media at the entrance of the restaurant where Nano was seen frequently lately.
Nano, who has previously expressed his desire for becoming President, accompanied Ambassador Arvizu at the door of the restaurant, where they stayed for several minutes.
Top Channel asked Ambassador Arvizu if one could say that he dined with the future Albanian President, but Mr. Arvizu avoided the answer, and Nano did the same.
The Nano-Arvizu meeting was held in a delicate moment for the former Prime Minister, who apparently will not have the support of the governing majority, while the Socialist Party has had more and more voices in support of Nano’s candidacy.
The Nano-Arvizu meeting was announced three days earlier, but the killing of the Albanian Commando in Afghanistan postponed it for Thursday.
