Arvizu criticizes politics

He declared that this is a consequence of mistrust between parties, which have left Albania outside the European Union.

Arvizu warned a difficult political year, saying that this is only the beginning. He added that the ones to suffer from this situation are the Albanian people.

“I think that the vacant seat of MP Seseri was filled in a much better way than the vacant seat of the High Council of Justice. Yesterday I exchanged opinions with a person that I fully respect and I told him that this is only the beginning. The answer was ‘Yes, Mr. Ambassador, you are right. This is only the beginning.’ There is a big gap between the trust of the parties, and this gap is responsible for the undergoing political crisis. It has contributed directly in Albania’s rejection to the EU candidate status. But we have also seen that when both parties want something, they are able to reach an agreement. We must still hope that the reasoning will still be kept, but we must be realistic and understand that the parties do not trust each other. I know that people often ask about the international community, but we cannot tell people what to do. Often I wish I had this, but maybe we can do it in another way by continuing to do what we have done so far for building trust between the parties: by using all advises that come from the ODIHR and the Commission of Venice. If this will not be realized, the road towards the EU will be difficult and the ones who will suffer more consequences are the people of Albania. As this friend of mind told me, that this is only the beginning, I hope that she and I are mistaken, because we can do it, if we want”, Arvizu declared.

Arvizu released this declaration after a ceremony in Elbasan, where he met the families that are hosting the Peace Corpus Volunteers. He thanked the Albanians for his welcome made to the Peace Ambassadors.
