Arvizu, CEC verification

The US Ambassador in our country, Alexander Arvizu, declared that the
political class has a very powerful voice and the media and politicians
make many discussions about the daily issues, but his impressions are
that people feel that their voice is not heard sufficiently.

“The voice of the people must be heard. Let’s take the example of the presidential elections, which happened two weeks ago. It was in full accordance with the Constitution and the Albanian system; it is not a direct choice of the people, but the result was set by the decisions or lack of the decisions between three people, the government leader, the leader of the government’s coalition party, and the opposition. Three people decided what will be done and what not. There seems to be a gap, not for the result, which was liked by some and not by others, but by the lack of input in the process”, Arvizu declared on Top Channel’s morning show “Wake Up”.

When asked about what disappointed him the presidential election, since he wasn’t present in the third and fourth rounds, Arvizu declared that it was clear that the first round would be burned. The second and the third rounds had very small chances of consensus, and I felt it could be a historical moment, and I felt that it could be represented in my level. It wasn’t the case in the fourth round. I had no reason why I should change my working agenda, which was very important, and I decided to be represented with my political secretary. However, I followed the process from the TV and it really was a lost chance”, Arvizu declared.

The US Ambassador made it clear that he didn’t want to affect the CEC decision for the waste import referendum, but because they will hold an investigation process for seeing if the request was legal or not. Arvizu declared that he asked ICITAP to cooperate with the state police for verifying if 50.000 of 62.000 signatures are fake, while the referendum needs 50.000 of them.
