Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, attended his first official meeting with the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu.
The Press Office of the Presidency says that the President guaranteed Arvizu about the continuity of the close cooperation between the two countries and about his contribution in strengthening the cooperation even further.
Nishani pointed out the priorities of his Presidency for the independence of the judiciary and for increasing the trust of the people to judges and the justice system.
The President declared that the promotion of the judges will be realized based on merits and through a procedure that is open and transparent, with clearly established criteria. Arvizu expressed his conviction that President Nishani has the right personality and integrity for guaranteeing harmonious cooperation between the institutions, based on the independence and mutual respect of the institutions.
The meeting focused on the independence of the institutions, which was part of the congratulatory letter sent by the US State Secretary, Hillary Clinton, to the newly elected President Nishani. The letter underlined the importance of the president’s role for preserving the independence of justice institutions, the Judiciary, the Prosecution and the Secret Service.
This meeting comes a few days after Nishani decreed the new director of one of these independent institutions, the Secret Service. Nishani appointed Visho Ajazi as Director, which was welcomed with reserves form the US. It is still unknown if this issue was mentioned in the meeting.
The day when Bahri Shaqiri was discharged, sources from the US Embassy reacted with surprise about the time that it took the President for this decision. Another high rank official source at the US Embassy told Top Channel that the US were not notified for the replacement of Mr. Shaqiri.

Berisha has also met the US Ambassador this Friday, who introduced to the Prime Minister the new US vice Ambassador, Henry V. Jardine.
The Prime Ministry’s press release says that in this meeting they discussed about the excellent bilateral relations and about strengthening and intensifying them in all areas.
Berisha underline the maximal commitment of the Albanian government to push these relations forward for further positive developments for both countries.
Meanwhile, the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, reacted on Twitter by saying that a President who is directly depending from the President cannot promote or develop the relations with the US, especially after replacing the Secret Service Director without consulting Albania’s biggest ally.
