Artists’ pension

One of the essential demands of the Artists Union is the decrease of the
pension age, for which they have appealed the Ministry of Culture to
start reviewing the artist status, a very old promise of the Albanian
government institutions.

The head of the Artists Union, besides decreasing the pension age, has also demanded a pay rise for artists.

“We have asked the decrease of the pension age for some categories, because a dancer or a circus artist cannot keep working until he is 65. We have asked for the women of these categories to retire at 50 years of age, while men at 55. We also demand that the artists’ pension should be 70% of their salary. The artists that have been honored and decorated for their achievements should be financially respected”, Ibrahimi says.

The actor Mirush Kabashi underlines another problem: the difficulties of the young artists for being part of the artistic institutions, an issue that is included in the draft that the Union will hand over to the Ministry of Culture.

“It is a closed policy of institutions that have been focusing only on some names”, Kabashi declared.

The Union representatives have also demanded the opening of some new artistic institutions that have been established but are not functional, such as the National Theater and the National Circus.
