Artificially grown vegetables

The farmers have abused during the entire season with the
agricultural products, using stimulating hormones for an artificial premature growth
for vegetables and fruits, substances that have been
banned from European countries.

Besides what could be easily seen by the consumer, this has also been confirmed by the director of Food Control Authority, Genc Jukaj, who declared that this abuse will punish the farmers severely in the next season, since all of them will have their code. This code shows the origin of a low quality product. According to Juka, the abuse starts with the business subjects that sell seeds, pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

“Unauthorized chemicals have entered Albania, which do not circulate in the EU and most of them are expired. We will ask the Minister of Agriculture to revoke the licenses of these importers”, Juka declared.

The director of the Food Control Authority explains that the inspections made until July have resulted that there are a lot of unlicensed subjects with this activity. But on the other hand, the licensed subjects sell seeds and chemical fertilizers in the same premises, which is prohibited by law.

“The storage register for wholesales is not regularly filled. In some cases, we have identified fertilizers that are excluded from the Minsitry of Agriculture list. Most of these fertilizers in retail and wholesales are expired”, Juka declared.

One year after receiving the competences, FCA guarantees that all farmers and fertilizer sellers will undergo a very careful inspection, for not allowing abuses that damage the consumers’ health.
