The Marine Military Base “Bishti i Pallws”, put on sale by the Defence
Ministry, was the next stop of the Socialist MP, Taluant Balla, who is
reporting the massive privatization of the army assets.

“We’re at the second most important base in our country, after that of Pashaliman. Bishti i Pallws and the Military Base has a strategic importance and also a very lucrative tourist and economic position. Unfortunately, this has entered the list of the military bases that the Defence Minister Arben Imami is selling in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy. There are hundreds of thousands of square meters property in the coastline, with a huge tourist and economic potential that are being sold by the Defence Ministry”, Balla declared.

“Allow me to list all Albanian Army assets in Bishti i Pallws, Porto Romano, Maminas and other areas near Durres that are put on sale: the former marine mines depot in Porto Romano, 57,216 square meters; the military base in Maminas no. 3032, 61200 sqare meters; the former batallion at Shkëmbi i Kavajës 3,220 m2; in Rrashbbull, 361000 m2. It continues with Shën Avlash, Arapaj, 56.000 m2. Arben Imami is selling the army assets, such as Bishti i Palles, which has a very important strategic position between the important tourist destinations, Durres and Lalzi Bay”, Balla declared.

The Socialist MP raises the question why this Minister is selling the most important properties of our army.

“These assets should not be sold, because this area has a great economic and tourist importance. This destruction of the public property for the close and immediate interests of the government and the people close to them will end after the next elections, with the property that will return to the citizens”, Balla declared.

The Defence Ministry reacted saying that they are simply doing their duty by putting the excessive assets on sale.

Vladimir Avdaj, Head of the Operational Directory of the Armed Forces explained that the Ministry has decided to release the excessive army bases.

“The transfer of the military bases that are not in accordance with the concept of the Armed Forces, is a priority for us. We will increase the capacity of the Armed Forces and reduce the unnecessary administrative base, together with the material and financial burden”, Avdaj declared.
