The Albanian Government will soon undertake an action for removing “car
cemeteries”, places where used vehicle parts are gathered along the
national roads for sale.
These “cemeteries” have been considered by the Prime Minister as “Shame postcards”, and the operation for their removal has set in motion four ministries, that of the Finances, the Public Works, the Defense and the Environment Ministry, which leads the process.
“Shqip” newspaper publishes the details of the plan, according to which the government has identified 290 subjects in the entire country. The removal of the old vehicles and their used parts will be made by the private subjects, but the army equipments will be used in case they will not comply.
“The Ministry of Defense is charged to transport the heavy materials that will be seized, through the armed forces, which are the only ones with the capabilities of such missions”, declared the Ministry of Environment in the relation that accompanies the normative act of the government.
The operation must finish in 30 days, but for the business, this deadline is impossible, since they have to consider the problems of the land that they will have to buy and the investments. The Environment Ministry says that mos of them do not have environmental licenses, and besides damaging the environment, the lack of signs by the owners of these businesses have been the source of several road accidents.
