Adrian Civici, one of the six remaining members of the Bank of Albania Supervisory Council has resigned.

Civici explains that he took this action to make room for a restructuring of the Bank of Albania, which would make that institution stronger.

Civici is the first Supervisory Council member who resigns after the vault theft, a scandal that culminated with the arrest of the former Governor, Ardian Fullani, and of the Inspector General, Elivar Golemi.

The remaining members have not accepted to resign, despite the increasing pressure from the public opinion.

Adrian Civici is known as one of the figures less related to politics at the Supervisory Council, and he has given signs of resignation even before.

He declared a few days ago that resignation is his first thought in this situation, but he would stay at the Supervisory Council until a decision was taken from the Prosecution for explaining the situation.

A few days ago, Mr.Civici, together with other members of this Council, were questioned by the Prosecution over the theft of the Bank’s vault, which seems to have been his last action as member of the supervisory council.

According to the Bank of Albania law, the members of the Supervisory Council should inform about their resignation one month before. This means that the Parliament has one month before replacing him, but it can be done even earlier.
