US Ambassador to Tirana, Yuri Kim during the conference “Costs of Democracy” that is being held today, stressed that the April 25 elections must be transparent and fair.
“Leaders must remove their corrupt politicians from the lists and implement decriminalization. Leaders must show transparency in funding and work with the system to check the candidates. The Albanian people deserve more, they should not vote for criminals in a democracy”.
The conference was also attended by the former British ambassador, Duncan Norman and the head of the CEC Ilirian Celibashi.
Norman stated that it is important that the elections are conducted fairly as it is a further step towards the country’s integration into the EU.
Celibashi admitted there is still the problem with the financing of parties from the world of crime or illegal businesses.
