Another scandal with the Albanian justice

The scandals of the Albanian justice system do not seem to end. Another
much wanted person from the Italian justice has been able to
successfully escape from Albania, at least until now, although he was
arrested in his country for being extradited to Italy.

The 25 year old Eraldo Markaj, from Lezhe, suspected of trafficking and distributing cocaine in Italy, is wanted from the Albanian police after a Court decision ordering his extradition. Top-Channel has secured a document that shows that the scandal with the Markaj case has started much earlier.

According to this documentation, Eraldo Markaj was arrested on September 10th by the Albanian Police, following an operation in Lezhe, after a request sent by the Italian Judge, Elena Cerioti, which asked his extradition. But after police arrested the 25 year old that in Albania had changed the name to Aldi Markaj, the Lezhe Court set him free without giving any other measure, with the argument that the arrest was invalid.

And this is where the paradox starts. A few days after this decision, the prosecution sent a request for Markaj’s extradition, based on a second request of the Italian authorities. And the court decided his extradition. Sources say that after receiving this decision, although there was no arrest measure against him and the suspected was free, police started searching for him not only in Lezhe, but also in Shenkoll. After having no results for one week, police confirmed that Markaj has left Albania.

The documentation that Top-Channel has secured says that Markaj is suspected in Italy for producing, trafficking and possessing illegal substances. The Italian authorities say in their extradition request that on February 2010, the Court of the Italian Republic has issued an arrest order for Markaj, but it was not executed in Italy, since Markaj left for Albania.
