Professor Ilia Kristo, who teaches “International Business” at the
Faculty of Economy in Tirana, says that China’s plan for investments in
Balkan is an initiative that makes everyone benefit. He says that these
investment reconfigure the international trade roads, making Balkan and
Albania an important crossroad between East and West.

“The products that come from East, through the Silk Road, is now free from political obstacles and it will be reconfigured”, proff.Kristo says.

But Ilir Ciko says that these funds are not for free, and the government should be careful when choosing the offered projects.

“When the possibilities to deepen the are very limited and problematic, new investments should certainly go for the most important projects”, says Ciko says, an economic expert.

In the past three years China has invested 110 billion USD in countries under development, surpassing even the World Bank. But their policies are often seen as very pragmatist. In exchange of capitals, the Chinese government looks for more access in natural resources.

“We must keep in mind that the basic principle in public finances is that one should be careful from free dinners. We must know the real reasons why these funds are being offered with very low conditions”, declared Arben Malaj, an expert of economy.

China has used its capitals for economic expansion but also for increasing their geo-political influence. Malaj says that Albania should be careful and not give negative signals about its course.
