The former Democratic Party leader, Sali Berisha, visits the Democratic
Party headquarters only once a week, for the Parliamentary Group
meeting. But this Tuesday, Berisha entered the opposition HQ a few
meetings before the arrival of the US Ambassador, Donald Lu, and the EU
ambassador, Romana Vlahutin.
This is the first time that these level of meetings are held in the presence of the former leader. The parties involved in the talks didn’t give any declaration for the media. But the justice reform might have been the main topic of the talk, which has been so important for the US and the EU, to the point that the ambassadors are exposing the real power that Sali Berisha still holds at the DP.
Unofficial sources say for Top Channel that the meeting is related to the visit of the European MPs, Fleckenstein and Kukan, who are apparently trying to negotiate a solution for the Albanian politics. This Monday they dined with the two ambassadors, Lu and Vlahutin, focusing on a satisfactory solution for the opposition, so that the justice system doesn’t go under government control.
Kukan and Fleckenstein have the trust of the Albanian political forces. Their declarations were based on cautious optimism, and expect the talks in Albania to be difficult until March 12, when the Venice recommendations will be issued.
