Local administration leaders from all over Albania gathered in a
cooperation conference organized by the Congress of the Local and
Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the
network of Europe’s Associations of Local Authorities in Southern
Eastern Europe.

“The strengthening of cooperation abilities between Albanian local leaders” was the focus of this conference where was present the US Ambassador in Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, the ambassador of the European Union, Ettore Sequi, and the Ambassador of OSCE, Eugen Wollfarth, who appealed for a more transparent local government and distanced by political affiliations.

The EU Ambassador in Tirana, Ettore Sequi, declared that the European tax payers have offered more than 100 million EUR for several investments in Albania.

“The public service must improve, and for this there are two conditions: transparency and responsibility. The Copenhagen conditions must be fulfilled. The newly elected leaders should implement the decentralization reforms and take the best out of their job”, Sequi declared.

The head of the OSCE presence in Tirana, Eugen Wollfarth expressed the necessity of having a local government that is distanced from political affiliations and that offer more citizens involvement in the decision-making process.

“You have the noble duty and obligation to serve to the entire community, in order to leave behind a positive heritage for the next generations. I invite you to make a good use of this moment. You must act as a model for the ethical practices and for a democratic process. You must guarantee a vision for offering public services to the community. I invite you to communicate with the citizens and involve the public in the decision-making process”, Wollfarth declared.
