After several debates over the amend proposed by Parliament Member Peza
for article 97 of the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA), the Media and
Education Commission Parliament Members have agreed to ask help from the
Council of Europe and from their expertise.
“The second point proposed by the opposition should be attached to this decision of Mr.Peza. I think that we have a proposition that expresses what we all want. We want this amend to undergo what has always happened in the Commission’s history… asking the assistance of the Council of Europe, OSCE and the European Delegation”, declared Parliament Member Musa Ulqini.
“Based on the proposition for amending law 97, 2013, for the Audiovisual Media law in the Republic Albania, and for continuing cooperation with the European Union, the European Commission and the OSCE, who have strongly supported this law with their technical assistance, we should ask another assistance of their experts so that the amends can be in full accordance with the Acquis Communitare and the standards of the OSCE and the Council of Europe”, Pollo declared.
But before reaching this consensus, the opposition Parliament Members have brought a proposition of Parliament Member Luciano Boci, based on the amend of Mr.Peza.
“The law has been assisted and we have simply mentioned the fact that this law has been assisted, since we also have an argument for their assistance. It’s not that we just want it and we want to insist. It is a very simple reason. We are grateful for this type of assistance, and we are asking another assistance for this amending process”, Boci declared.
These amends were not accepted by the majority, what made the Chairman of this Commission, Mr.Genc Pollo, find a legal formulation that is appropriate for both parties.
After reaching this consensus, the Commission continued the discussions behind closed doors for finding a formula based on which they will chose 10 candidates for the Albanian Public Television board of directors.
