The Ali Pasha Castle in Tepelena, one of the most magnificent objects in Southern Albania, has been occupied by dozens of buildings and piles of waste.
The pollution has included the entire territory of the castle and makes it impossible to be frequented by visitors. The Tepelena Municipality has undertaken some cleaning actions that rehabilitated the territory only for some days.
Within a very short period, the pollution started again. The biggest gate, which has a majestic architecture, today offers a shameful image. The Tepelena Mayor, Termet Peci, says that after the first efforts for convincing the residents to maintain the environment inside the castle, and after some cleaning actions that don’t seem to have given any result, the Municipality will start applying tax fines.
The residents themselves say that they have been organized several times for cleaning it voluntarily, but according to them, this must turn into tradition in time.
The Ali Pasha Tepelena castle has attracted many visitors lately, and it also promises to turn into a scene of culture events.
