Albright competing for PTK

Many Kosovo girls have the name of Madeleine Albright as a sign of
gratitude, and also many roads. Madeleine Albright was decorated by
Barack Obama with the freedom medal for her contribution during and
after the war in Kosovo.

More than one decade after the war, her interest for the newest state of Europe comes from another point of view. The company of Mrs. Albright is officially competing for buying 75% of the Kososo Post and Telecommunication (PTK). The Government Commission for the Privatization of PTK has closed the application deadline.

The Company of the former US State Secretary Madeleine Albright, “Albright Capital Management Llc”, leads the list for buying 75% of the PTK shares. Seven other doemstic and international companies are competing, and their owners are well known figures in Kosovo.

Besides Albright, another interest for investments in Kosovo were shown by the former NATO General, Wesley Clark. Clark was interested in investing for the synthetic oil production in Dukagjin.

The Albanian-Greek web portal (SM Analysis) had published an article saying that Clark had intervened in Albania with many businesses, and that together with Damir Fazllic he had negotiated for the monopoly of the fiscal stamps in Albania.

The scandal stands to the part that the tax stamps will have a twice more expensive price due to the fiscal evasion. The media speculate that Fazlic and Clark are aiming for the gambling businesses.

On the other hand, based on the annunciation of the Ministry of Economic Development in Kosovo, the PTK privatization assets will be assessed by a professional commission composed of experts from all ministries that are represented in the Commission.

“The Commission is committed to conclude the privatization process in full transparency. During this process, a special attention will be paid to the further and progressive development of the telecom sector, especially the company in which the state will hold 25% of the shares; and the well being of the employees that will be part of the company with mixed private and public capital”, the press release declared.

It remains to be seen if the companies of the allies of Kosovo and all Albanians in general will fulfill the conditions for buying these assets of Kosovo.
