Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The tender for the sale of the most strategic and important company in
our country, Albpetrol, after a general stun created with the high
price, is followed by a great silence by the government and the
opposition.
The government was justified so far with the fact that the documentation is under scrutiny and the decision takes time. The opposition insists against the law that privatizes Albpetrol, but not the process.
The Socialist MP, Arben Ahmetaj, declared in a live interview for Top Channel that the Socialists are against the privatization of Albpetrol, despite the 850 million EUR offer. According to him, this law is anti-constitutional and sells the national rights and interests that in an international standard always belong to the state.
“I voted against the privatization law because it sells the national interests of Albania. The operator has taken rights that belong to the state and that reach 50 million USD. These rights must go to the state, as the international standard suggests. The sale of the rights of the Albanian citizens is against all international standards”, Ahmetaj declared.
The Socialist MP declared that the Albanian underground assets have 30 million tons of Oil, which are translated to 18 billion USD, with today’s market value. Ahmetaj declared that the opposition agrees to give this asset in concession, but not to sell it. Concession, according to him, is the best solution that defends the rights and interests of the state and the Albanian citizens.
As regards the privatization, Ahmetaj declared that it needs more transparency on the operator that will bring the biggest offer with the best plan, only if his interests are in full accordance with the strategic interests of the Albanians.
To the question of how will the Socialist Party react when in power, Ahmetaj declared that they will return to the state budget the money that are being lost by this privatization.
