The European Parliament and the Belgian-Albanian association, Konitza,
celebrated the 100th anniversary of the independence with a symbolic
meeting named “Albanians in Europe, a creative spirit”.

The meeting was moderated by the Albanian journalist Ernest Bunguri, and the European right wing was represented by Eduard Kukan, while the left wing by Tanya Fayon.

“The history of Albania has been turbulent, sometime dramatic,  and it has not always been right to their citizens, who have not had time to reflect and find the path towards Europe, although they have always felt and they always feel deeply Europeans”, declared Genti Metaj, Chairman of the Belgian-Albanian “Konitza” Association.

The European MP, Tanya Fayon, declared: “If you remember, Tirana was granted the status of potential EU candidate in 2003, but submitted its membership application only in 2009. And now that has been noted a remarkable progress, this and the next year in my eyes will be a very crucial year. “

“All generations can use their experiences and connect with Albania to use your knowledg, skills, your talents to stimulate the development of Albania. It’s better to say that we are not only trying, we do provide support for the Albania in its European part. It’s however up to Albania who have to make most of the development. If the citizens of Albania, together with millions of Albanians spread around the world, join their efforts, I firmly believe that the country will have a continued bright future”, declared the EMP, Eduard Kukan.

Besides the representatives of the Albanian community who live and work in Belgium, in this symbolic celebration there were Ambassadors from Albania and Kosovo, together with the Vice President of the European Parliament, Miguel Angel Martinez, and the rapporteur of the European left wing for Albania, Libor Roucek.

During the questioning session, Teuta Vodo, assistant professor at the “ULB” in Brussels, asked Mr. Kukan of what it means if the three conditions that are set to Tirana will not be completed or if they will be completed only partially.

“If I was you, I wouldn’t have made such a question. I think that you must think how these three conditions should be fulfilled, not what would happen if they will not be completed. I refuse to think such an option”, the EMP answered.

The representatives of the Albanian Diaspora made no other question or comment during this special debate, before the cocktail organized at the premises of the European Parliament.
