Albanians are the biggest foreign community in Italy’s labor force.

The Italian Insurance Institution reported that there are 250,000 Albanians in Italy who work legally, paying taxes and social insurance.

Albanians are listed second for the number of employed people, after Moroccans, with 225,000. Chinese citizens are listed third, with 203,000.

Albanians also make the biggest foreign community with economic power. According to the “Leone Moresa” Foundation, Albanians in Italy report 3.5 to 3.7 billion EUR a year.

This is almost equal to the entire state budget of Albania, or 30% of Albania’s total GDP. Immigrants are a large economic source not only for the host country, where they contribute to the national GDP, but also to their country of origin.

The Bank of Albania says that immigrants working in Italy have sent 7 billion EUR in the past 10 years, with most of them coming from Italy and Greece.
