Maria leaves in a two-story house. After the morning coffee with her husband Fatmir, the 67 year old housewife dedicates almost all her time to her home. First the cleaning and then more than two hours preparing lunch. “I have a lot of work to do. In a private house like ours there is always something to take care of. The day flies”, she says.

Maria is the perfect example of Albanian women who according to a European Commission survey for the quality of life in the European Union and candidate countries spend the most time on housekeeping.

Albanian women have declared they spend 29 hours per week even though the figure should be higher. After them Romanian women; they spend 23 hours on housekeeping.

Balkans women spend less time on the kitchen with Macedonians declaring 18 hours and Montenegrins and Serbian women declaring 19 hours of housekeeping.

The less engaged on house works are the Danish women, who spend 9 hours for cooking and cleaning, followed by Finnish and Swedish with 11 hours per week.
