A few days after the European Parliament’s Commission on Foreign Affairs
approved the Resolution for Kosovo, the European MP Ulrike Lunacek
visited Prishtina to introduce it.

The EU Parliament rapporteur declared that Kosovo has made great progress in the EU path, and reminded that the resolution asks Spain, Greece, Slovakia, Romania and Cyprus to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

Lunacek declared she is glad that some EU states imposed Serbia the condition to remove the parallel structures in northern Kosovo before the membership negotiations can take place.

“I am very pleased that some EU countries are very strict on this matter. They told Serbia that if the parallel structures will not be remove, especially the ones regarding security and the judiciary, Serbia will be unable to start the EU negotiations”, Lunacek declared.

On the other hand, Lunacek asked the Kosovo authorities to do more in the fight against organized crime and corruption.

As for the visa free movement, she said that Kosovo must earn it through hard work. She mentioned the concerns raised by the EP on the declarations launched by Albania’s Prime Minister’s, who he promised to give Albanian passports to Kosovo citizens.

“I know that there have been some concerns at the European Parliament about Sali Berisha’s declarations, who promised to give Albanian passports to the Kosovo citizens because the same thing is happening in other countries, such as Romania with Moldavia. The passports are given to citizens of countries that are close and speak the same language. There have been the same concerns about Albania. My position doesn’t cover Albania and I cannot exactly say who is talking with Albania’s government for this issue, but I can only say that there are concerns”, Lunacek declared.

Asked about the passport scandal in Kosovo and if there is another country where the Minister still holds his position after such a scandal, Lunacek declared that the EU also has ministers who keep their positions, but the most important thing in this case is to discover what happened with the money and find those who are responsible.

Lunacek praised the dialogue held in Brussels, and for the last meeting between the Presidents of Kosovo and Serbia she said that is something that should not be under evaluated.
