The Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri, asked the
European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighboring, Johannes Hahn,
to help resolve the situation for the interconnection power line with
Kosovo.
Gjiknuri was part of a meeting between six Western Balkan countries, which was held in Skopje during a visit of Commissioner Hahn.
The Kosovo Minister of Economy raised the same concern, while the Serbian Minister said that this is a political matter, part of the Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue, mediated by Brussels, and that’s the level where it should be resolved.
The Ministers of Energy raised concerns about the prices of imported energy, caused by the drought and low temperatures.
Minister Gjiknuri said that Albania helped the situation by making an optimal usage of its water reserves.
The Ministers agreed to organize a study of the hydro-energy potentials in Western Balkan, so that they can be used in the future for the entire region.
