A few hours after Top Channel showed the hunger strike of the Syrian
refugees in the “Sindagma” square, Athens, a group of Albanian
immigrants collected food, medicine, fruit and clothes for the refugees
and their families, who are waiting for the status of war asylum.
Etmond Guri, chairman of the Federation of Albanian Associations in Greece, says that it is a duty for the Albanian immigrant community in Greece to help people in need.
“We are here with Socialist Party members and simple immigrants, on behalf of the Albanian people who live in Greece. We have brought food, clothes and covers. Please accept them in sign of solidarity”, Guri declared.
Aleksander Kola, Secretary of the Socialist Party in Gthens, says that once it was the Greek people helping the Albanian immigrants: “Now it is our turn to help those who have come from abroad”.
“Right after watching the announcement on Top Channel, we gathered and helped with what we could”, Kola declared.
Dhimiter Caka, administrator of a private company, says that the news report shown on Top Channel was enough to make the company he leads collect a truck full of food and clothes.
The Syrian immigrants thanked the Albanian community for the solidarity that was shown and distributed the aids to their children.
“It is a joy seeing people that support us. We will not forget it”, says their representative.
