Albanian gang leader arrested in Greece

The Greek Police has arrested an Albanian citizen that is considered as
the chief of a criminal group, known as “The AK-47 Gang”, which has
caused troubles and fear among the citizens of Athens in the recent
months.

The gang leader, known as “Toni”, was arrested at his house in Athens, where police seized cocaine, a PC, five cell phones and a quantity of money. Sources say that his gang is composed of other Albanian, Romanian and Greek members, responsible for a murder at the Menidhi neighborhood of the Greek Capital, for 57 armed robberies, 7 car thefts and one murder attempt.

The robberies were made in houses, kiosks, gas services, taverns and fast food shops in the Athens neighborhoods of Peristeri, Nikea and Kalithea. The criminals were often masked as police agents. The person that the police arrested is considered as the most dangerous of the gang. Police say that when one of the gang members was arrested, he replaced him with someone else.

Criminality has increased in Greece in the last couple of months, alarming the law and order institutions and causing concern among the citizens for their safety.
