The Albanian Minister for Diaspora, Pandeli Majko, met with the President of the Abruzzo Region in Italy and the Mayor of Pescara.
“The identity of Albanian children born in Italy should not be created outside Italian schools”, said the Minister of State for the Diaspora, motivating his request for developing Albanian language courses within the Italian school system, in a meeting with the President of the Abruzzo Region, Luciano D’Alfonso, and the Mayor of Pescara, Alessandrini.
During this meeting, they spoke about a joint program in the area populated by the Arberesh in Pescara, such as annual cultural activities. Another important matter was the creation of a direct Pescara-Tirana airline.
Majko said that this is the best way to avoid a possible contradiction between identity and integration. He valued the efficient policies of the region for treating emigrants equally. The minister asked for special treatment of the Albanian community, which, according to him, is one of the most integrated communities in the Italian society.
The Mayor of Pescara, Alessandrini, guaranteed the Minister for the special attention they pay to integration.
“You speak about building bridges, and you are in the right place, because this is a city of bridges. Bridges are beautiful symbols of human relations and we are trying to build a city which has integration as a priority. Integration goes through the respecting of rules and preserving traditions of the country of origin”, the Mayor said, who underlined the special relations between both countries.
